090306lucy.jpgTelevision broadcasts started in the 1940s, but they were very expensive. There were only around 8,000 sets sold in the US. But but 1957, 80% of all households across America had a television set in their homes. In 1953, the all-American favorite classic, I Love Lucy, went on air. There were many things on TV such as comedy, action and adventure. Comedy was very popular, but Westerns grew quickly in popularity, such as Hoalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, and Gunsmoke.
TV became so popular that movie attendance dropped immenselly. Hollywood then thought up of Cinemascreen, to project it onto a larger screen. Movies such as The Ten Commandments, Around the World in 80 days and The Robe were all produced, but they also made a lot of money to pay back what they spent on it.
In order to keep their audience, the Radio also had to change some things. TV made radio comedies, dramas, and soap operas obsolete. The radio responded by broadcasting recorded music, news weather, sports and talk shows.
